I found this old photo while surfing.
I really miss the old Coaster station with the bumper cars.

Great find! Ok, now what year was it taken? Probably mid 70's ?

That seems about right. The street's still open and there's no lower entrance gate in front of the coaster.

Yeah, for anyone old enough to remember it, the loading station was wicked cool. I'll never forget the smell in there...a combination of gear grease, ozone, and french fries. 8)

I remeber it from the late 1980's. What a great setup that was. Imagine if it were still the same way now, how cool would that be? The biggest mistake ever was removing the Mill chute though...
Off season 2013/2014 here we go. See you in the Spring, Dorney.

I think the upper left corner of the pic is the key to the date. I just noticed Indy 500 is not there yet. This alone should eliminate a part of the later 70's.

Is that an early model paratrooper next to the Zephyr tracks?

Looks like a Round-up to the left of it?

HEEEEY!! What's your problem with Alfundo!! What's wrong with you!!?? ha ha. J/K

I cried when I was 4 or 5 and Alfundo came up to me with those huge floppy shoes. I still remember pointing at him later that night saw him in the front of a the "yellow coaster" going up the lift.

To the left of the Zephyr tracks is the Skydiver, and then to the left of that is the Trabant. Both were manufactured by Chance Rides. I'd guess the pic is somewhere between 1965-1968. The Skydiver is in a picture in the 1969 Anniversary booklet, but it's not on the park-map for the season so it must have been removed by 1969.

That's a great picture. Where did you find that? I think the cars in the lot can date the picture. Appears to be the late 60's-early 70's.

I think that coaster building is engraved in all of our minds. It was super creepy yet had a character all its own. Inside that building was the arcade, the bumper cars, and the queue for Thunderhawk. It was dark and had a very poignent smell inside. After you loaded the train for T-hawk, you immeditely went down, under and through this tunnel that was clearly adjacent to the tunnels from Journey because it had this god awful mildew smell. Maybe there was rotting going on somwhere or even mold build-up which might be the reason for its removal. To boot, the smell of grease also permeated the air. I think this was a combo of the coater oil and the bumper cars. The interior of the tunnel was even themed. Does anyone else remember this? This was the mid-80's. The tunnel walls were lined with skeletons. This was probably to tie it in with Journey to the Center of the Earth. Yeah I feel extra old now.

I remember it too DorneyDante. It was fun in the building waiting for ThunderHawk and hearing all the noise from the bumper cars. Made the atmosphere more exciting. I remember waiting in longer lines back then to ride the coaster. I also remember how dark it got when ThunderHawk dispatched before coming out onto the lift, it was cool.

I found it on Facebook checking out photos on a friend of a friends page. The page is "Valley Rail Trains" He has a few old Dorney pics including some of the racetrack. He also has some other great old pics from the area, mostly involving railroad stuff.
